Biggest Loser: Derrick Rose. After being traded to New York by the Cavaliers last offseason, Rose played his best basketball in years for the Knicks. However, his play began to slip dramatically after a devastating knee injury in January that sidelined him for several months. Despite being a team leader and bringing some excitement to the team, Rose ended up being one of the biggest losers on the team as he struggled to find his old form. It will be interesting to see if he can bounce back next season.
Most Improved Player: Trey Burke was named Most Improved Player of the Year by NBA Eastern Conference front office staff members in NBA.com’s annual player awards poll. Burke played a key role in the Knicks success throughout the season and even took over games at times when he was needed most. He averaged 13 points per game while shooting 42 percent from three-point range and was a big part of the Knicks second unit that helped them come back in games. He also showed he could handle the ball well and make plays for others which is something they lacked last season. He will be looking to build on his improvement next season.
Player Who Shined Brightest During Playoffs: Enes Kanter had a huge playoff run during the Knicks first round matchup against the Sixers where he averaged 18 points and 14 rebounds per game. His presence inside helped take pressure off of Kristaps Porzingis and he played a key role in their upset win over Philadelphia. Kanter was able to showcase his versatile skill set in the playoffs and will be looking to build on his success next season. He also had a strong postseason run in
