在六十年代早期和中期，Hancock的樂團主要從事俱樂部演出和錄音，但真正使他聲名鵲起獲得廣泛承認的是他加入Miles Davis的五重奏以後，他與Miles共同呆了五年多。在與Davis合作的後期，樂隊開始演奏Jazz-rock的風格，Hancock對這種風格十分適應，1968年他自己組了一個六重奏追求自己的演奏觀念。合作樂手包括Julian Priester、Buster Williams和Eddie Henderson,他們演奏Hancock原創的作品，樂隊成為70年代早期最受歡迎和最具影響力Jazz-Rock樂隊。從1969年開始，Hancock廣泛使用電鋼琴和其他電子樂器，包括合成器。1973年迫於經濟壓力Hancock將他的樂隊削減為四重奏，其中包括特色樂手Bennie Maupin。新樂隊的風格還是Fusion，但這次更多偏向於Jazz-Funk。Hancock四重奏的首張專輯《Head Hunters》被剛萌芽的Disco樂界廣泛接受而且贏得巨大的銷量。整個七十年代其餘的時間，Hancock的音樂始終關注於這個領域。由於這十年在Disco市場的大受歡迎，使得他進一步削減了現場爵士演出。期間他也製作了數張傳統爵士專輯，其中有與Chick Corea一起的以及他自己樂隊V.S.O.P.的。1986年Hancock在電影《‘Round Midnight》中出演並演奏，還寫了電影的配樂，因此獲得學院獎。之後他在爵士樂界更為活躍了，與Tonny Williams，Ron Carter，Michael Brecker其他人一起巡演。2008年，他的唱片集river:The Joni letters獲第50屆格萊美年度最佳專輯。赫比.漢考、郎朗和音樂才子劉澤鍇互相交流
